Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the hr-Sinfonieorchester, from which he has just taken farewell as chief conductor, will now open this year's Rheingau Music Festival jointly with the Federal President's Benefit Concert on June 26, 2021.
Andrés Orozco-Estrada will end his seven-year, highly successful function as principal conductor of the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt with two concerts on June 17, 2021. With the "Principle Guest" of the season, Hilary Hahn, besides works by Mendelssohn, Sarasate and Brahms, Ginastera's rarely performed Violin Concerto will be heard.

Under the baton of their principal conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and soprano Christiane Karg invite you to a concert evening of late romantic splendour. The first season of the Living Room Concerts began in November with Orozco-Estrada, and the last Living Room Concert for the time being will also bring the programme full circle. With works by Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss, the orchestra, founded in 1900, returns to the sound culture that oscillates between late Romanticism and modernism, for which it is predestined like hardly any other orchestra.
Christiane Karg, who most recently thrilled audiences at Orozco-Estrada's acclaimed inaugural concert in the autumn, will perform Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs. The touching legacy of the great late Romantic is combined with the elegiac Adagietto from Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony.
We look forward very much to Andrés Orozco-Estrada’s first premiere at Vienna’s State Opera. He will be giving his debut with Georges Bizet’s Carmen, directed by Calixto Bieito.
The premiere without live audience will be streamed on February 21 live a 8.15 p.m. on ORF III:
https://tv.orf.at/orf3/stories/carmen/
In the big interview with Michael Gmasz, Andrés talks not only about his first season - which he imagined to be a little different - but also about returning to Vienna, different types of orchestras in Germany, the USA and Austria, his musical focus on works by Richard Strauss and Joseph Haydn, the time to leave his mark on an orchestra as chief conductor and much more.

ASCENDING THE HEIGHTS – AN UNFORGETTABLE ALPINE JOURNEY
With its epic sweep and grandeur and compelling drama, there has rarely been such a spine-tingling and vivid depiction of nature as found in Richard Strauss’s magnificent tone poem, An Alpine Symphony. Calling for gargantuan orchestral forces, this lavishly illustrated journey is Strauss’s crowning orchestral achievement. Using a vast musical canvas packed with vivid and exquisite details, it’s a bold, optimistic and passionate work, unleashing ecstatic blazes of orchestral colour alongside moments of awestruck contemplation in a continuous narrative of 22 sections, which Strauss threads together with his usual mastery and aplomb.
The work is performed by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony conducted by podium sensation Andrés Orozco-Estrada. It marks their fourth release in a critically acclaimed series for PENTATONE. Their performance of Strauss’s Salome earned Gramophone magazine’s Editor’s Choice (January 2018). Gramophone also praised their Ein Heldenleben “...the playing has an easy virtuosity … the love music swells and swoons magnificently”. And for their first recording, the Stravinsky ballets The Firebird and The Rite of Spring, Gramophone lauded their ability “to unearth an astonishing amount of detail at relatively spacious tempi” and “PENTATONE’s awesomely precise recording”.

Richard Strauss "Salome", just released by Pentatone, is the third recording by Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony for the classical music label after Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben & Macbeth".
It is rare for the Frankfurt Radio Symphony to play an opera score, but the concentrated form of this epic masterpiece by Strauss is emphasized by the concert performance and loses nothing of its original radicalism but requires 100 highly concentrated minutes of uninterrupted attention.
The newly released live-recording was made at a concert at Alte Oper in Frankfurt a year ago, which was highly praised by critics and the public. Not only the effective and novel orchestration by Orozco-Estrada, but also his great selection of singers with the highly acclaimed American Emily Magee in the lead role make this recording a highlight for all friends of opera.

In March Andrés Orozco-Estrada completes the series of Dvořák’s final symphonies with Houston Symphony on CD (Pentatone). Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, the so-called "New World Symphony", is counted among the most successful and distinctive symphonies ever written. His Slavonic Dances Op. 46 (of which two are heard in this recording) are equally popular with audiences. His earlier discs of Dvořák symphonies (Symphonies No. 6, 7 and 8) with PENTATONE were described as “vivid and colourful, overall well balanced” (Pizzicato), “an interpretation full of theatricality, with a sure sense of the monumental” (Gramophone).

Andrés Orozco-Estrada continues his critically acclaimed series of recordings for PENTATONE with this release of the evocative tone poems Macbeth and Ein Heldenleben by Richard Strauss, performed here with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony.
This is Orozco-Estrada’s fourth recording for PENTATONE. His first recording, the Stravinsky ballets The Firebird and The Rite of Spring, was praised by Gramophone for his ability to “unearth an astonishing amount of detail at relatively spacious tempi” and for “PENTATONE’s awesomely precise recording”. His two discs of Dvořák symphonies received similar acclaim: “Vivid and colourful, overall well balanced” (Pizzicato).
Gramophone also praised the new Strauss-CD (November, 2016): "Everything's where it should be, and the playing has an easy virtuosity. Heldenleben sets off with terrific swagger, while the love music swells and swoons magnificently, bolstered by some beautifully rounded playing from the horns and a silky corporate string tone."

This week the Houston Symphony released its first recording in five years, and first under the guidance of conductor and music director Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The album features Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 7 and Symphony No. 8; both pieces were performed at Jones Hall between April 2014 and March 2015. This is the first in a series of Dvořák recordings to be made by the symphony and marks the beginning of a partnership with Pentatone. May 1 brings the release of a three-disc Dvořák series that includes Symphony No. 6 with Slavonic Dance Opus 72, No. 3, and Slavonic Dance Opus 46, No. 8. A third release, which includes Symphony No. 9 with two additional Slavonic Dances, will be released later this year.
In 2016, PENTATONE will feature Andrés Orozco-Estrada prominently. He will appear on a large number of PENTATONE releases with the two orchestras from Frankfurt and Houston whose conductorship he has held since 2014/15. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony starts off in February with Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps and The Firebird. In spring, two Houston Symphony productions will follow: Dvořáks 's Symphonies Nos. 7 and 8 and Dvořáks 's Symphony No. 6 together with the Slavonic Dances. In September, the Houston Symphony recording of Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 will be released. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony rounds off the year of releases in November with Richard Strauss' Heldenleben (A Hero's Life) and Macbeth.
The “Ludwig van ...” project begins! Through this season's project, principal conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony invite listeners to intensively engage with Beethoven's music. At the heart of this project is a somewhat unusual symphonic cycle performed in Frankfurt's Alte Oper. Two different Beethoven symphonies will be presented each night over the course of four concerts enriched by interesting pianistic counterpoints and further Beethoven contributions. Divided into two groups, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony is rehearsing the symphonies in parallel formations. Both groups will perform in each of the Thursday and Friday concerts, so all members of the orchestra are involved in this project. In the first “Ludwig van ...” double programme, Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony will present the First and Third Symphonies in concert on 11th February and the Fourth and Fifth Symphonies on 12th February. As a complete contrast of tone and style, the exceptional French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard will on each occasion perform a piece for piano by Karlheinz Stockhausen, finishing with the impressive sound of Beethoven’s Eroica Variations and the Appassionata on each respective evening.

What does “leadership” mean when you are working with an orchestra? Andrés Orozco-Estrada gets to the bottom of this question and many more in an interview with Professor Rolf van Dick (Goethe University Frankfurt). He talks about a conductor's talent and training, as well as his interaction with up to a hundred highly qualified and specialized musicians, and about the role of values in his work.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada returns to the London Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday 1st November, at the Royal Festival Hall in London and conducts Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection). He will replace Jaap van Zweden who has had to withdraw. Elizabeth Watts (soprano) and Alice Coote (mezzo soprano) are the soloists and the London Philharmonic Choir will be the centerpiece of the final movement. From September 2015 Andrés will take up the position of Principal Guest Conductor with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Last November he made his debut with the LPO in the "Alte Oper" in Frankfurt, followed by a European tour.
With an explosive start, Andrés Orozco-Estrada opened his sixth and final season in Vienna as principal conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra. Since assuming this role he has opened each concert season with the world premiere of an Austrian composer -- this year was the turn of the Triple Concerto for Trumpet, Trombone and Tuba by Bernd Richard Deutsch, Hindemith prize-winner in 2014. The programme also featured Maurice Ravel's Second Daphnis et Chloé Suite and Dvorák's 9th Symphony (From the New World).
Andrés Orozco-Estrada's musicianship "combines accessibility with analytical perspicacity", as attested by Der Standard's music critic. "We have already sensed this for some time -- but now we can say with certainty: This man has all the makings of a world class musician."
The start of the 2014|15 concert season sees Andrés Orozco-Estrada take the top position at the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Houston Symphony. The public, media and musicians alike gave him a warm and enthusiastic welcome to both of his new work-places. Following his début at the Rheingau music festival, Andrés Orozco-Estrada introduced himself to his new Frankfurt audience in an open-air concert with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Metzlerpark, which was soon packed. Just under 5000 music-lovers enjoyed an ambitious yet entertaining programme in situ with works by Ravel, Richard Strauss and Sarasate, and more than 330000 viewers followed the concert on the hr-Fernsehen TV channel. “Frankfurt's new Classical star wowed the audience”, the Frankfurter Neue Presse reported on his début as principal conductor.
Houston also welcomed their new Music Director with open arms and boundless enthusiasm. The new director of the Houston Symphony presented his musical visiting card to over 8000 listeners in an open-air concert at the Miller Outdoor Theatre of both Latin-American and US repertoire and also in his first subscription concert including a world première of a Gabriela Lena Frank composition and works by Rachmaninoff and Richard Strauss.
