On the radio: Il Templario from Salzburg

“Strongly recommended” by the Salzburger Nachrichten, Otto Nicolai's opera Il Templario was performed in two concerts at this year's Salzburg Festival under the baton of Andrés Orozco-Estrada, delighting audiences and critics alike. Anyone who could not be there has the chance to listen to this operatic rarity on Saturday 3rd September at 7.30 p.m., either on the radio or online on OE1. “A discovery, a resounding success”, wrote the Salzburger Nachrichten. “Once again the Vienna Philharmonic delivered a first-class performance. Under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, they unfurled a finely woven tonal tapestry with an overpowering richness of colour, stupendous flexibility and transparency,” reported Der Standard. “A musical truffle hunt turned to triumph”, declared Die Presse, continuing: “Under Andrés Orozco-Estrada's both dramatically gripping and finely balanced direction, the sound was a veritable bel canto truffle.”
